Responsibilities of the University Architect
The University Architect is responsible for developing and implementing the University Master Plan.
The Architect consults users of the New Mexico State University and prepares a set of proposals. Each year these proposals are presented to the President and the Executive Vice President of the University for approval. When approved, the proposal is presented to the councils and committees of the university:
Academic Deans Council
Faculty Senate
Administrative Council
Associated Students of NMSU
Campus Planning Committee
Parking Committee
When representatives of the collegiate body had an opportunity to express their opinion on the Plan, and appropriate changes are made, the Plan is presented to the Board of Regents for their final approval.
When the Plan is approved, the Architect works with architects retained by the Regents to design new buildings on campus. He assures they follow the intent of the Plan, and that buildings designed by outside architects harmonize with the rest of the campus and will add to the visual unification of the facility.
The Architect also works with his staff to assure trouble free and aesthetically satisfying designs for the campus. Designs done by the Office of the University Architect are usually small structures and renovations.
